Hi Reader,
Does this resonate?
Eco-Angst Is Real (and Growing) Do you ever feel that mix of anxiety, grief, or frustration about the state of the planet? You’re not alone. Researchers now call it “eco-anxiety,” and in one international survey of young people, nearly 60% said they are “very worried” about climate change, with almost half saying it affects their daily lives.
But here’s the important part: eco-angst doesn’t have to paralyze us. It can also be a compass pointing us toward what matters most.
What We’re Upset About (and Why It Hurts) When I talk with people—and when I look at the research—the same pain points keep surfacing:
- Feeling powerless against giant systems: industrial agriculture, fossil fuels, corporate influence.
- Greenwashing—brands claiming “eco” while polluting behind the scenes.
- Hidden toxins in food, water, and homes.
- The unfair burden on individuals: recycle harder while governments and corporations keep polluting.
- Grief and guilt watching species vanish and ecosystems collapse.
No wonder so many of us feel overwhelmed.
A Different Path: Kendra Hoffman on Earth Care
That’s why I loved this week’s Green Living Now conversation with ecological designer Kendra Hoffman. Instead of chasing the impossible goal of “saving the planet,” she shows how her Earth Care Compass invites us to:
- Reclaim childlike wonder as fuel for resilience.
- Create small, daily practices like a simple “sit spot” in nature.
- Focus on change that’s local, small, and reciprocal.
- Remember that caring for Earth is self-care too.
It’s a refreshing, hopeful perspective—especially if you’ve been feeling weighed down by eco-angst.
Your Small Steps Matter Eco-angst may be real, but so is your power. Even the smallest actions—choosing one toxin-free swap, planting a pollinator flower, joining neighbors in a boycott—can build momentum. Kendra’s reminder is simple but profound: we have more power than we think.
If you’ve been craving hope with a compass, this conversation is for you.
